IMMIGRATION RESTRICTION MELBOURNE, Jan, 15. The steamer Clitus arrived this morning from Singapore with four Chinese on board. Captain McDonald was told that he had rendered himself liable to a fine for bringing aliens to the commonwealth contrary to the Aliens Immigration Restrictions Act. The local agents put up a deposit of £400 with the Customs authorities as a guarantee that none of the Chinese passengers would be landed. |
